COMMUTABLE AREAS

Uxbridge, while an extremely livable community, does not house many large industries aside from restaurants and local retail stores. The top industries in Uxbridge do include construction, computer and electronic products, and professional, scientific, and technical services. However, it is near a lot of commutable areas, with a median commute to work being 30 minutes for residents.

WORCESTER

Uxbridge is a 30 minute commute from the city of Worcester, the second largest city in New England. Once a large manufacturing area, Worcester's economy today consists largely of healthcare, education, and insurance services such as Hanover insurance which was founded in the city and still maintains its headquarters there. It is home to many prominent institutions of higher learning such as Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and the College of the Holy Cross, which spur research and development. Expansions in the technology and biotechnology industries have also led to growth and innovation at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and the Massachusetts Biotechnology Research Park, for example. Polar Beverages, the largest independent soft-drink bottler in the United States, is also based in Worcester.
